Ultralight Labs has been acquired by Greenlight Guru, and the product carries on as Greenlight Guru Ultra. Congratulations to Monik Sheth, Shiv Ghai and everyone at Ultralight. This is a big one, and it's thoroughly deserved.

Day zero

We started working with Ultralight in its first year, when the product was a few early screens. There was a mission, unlocking more innovation in medtech by taking the pain out of compliance, and a stack of FDA documentation that explained how medical devices actually get approved.

For the next three years we were Ultralight's design partner, working alongside Monik, Shiv and their engineers through go-to-market and expansion. What started as rough sketches of the FDA's design control process became a platform covering the whole compliance lifecycle: design control, reviews, documents, risks, training, suppliers, quality events and, by the end, releases for software teams.

What it taught us

Compliance software has a reputation for looking exactly like the regulation it serves. Ultralight was a bet that it didn't have to: that a product built for one of the most document-heavy processes in any industry could still be something an engineer would open on purpose. Seeing a team as respected as Greenlight Guru take that product on is about the best answer to that bet we could have hoped for.

It also reminded us why we like working from day zero. The decisions that matter most get made before anyone draws a screen, and being in the room for those, with founders who cared as much about how the product felt as about what it did, is the work we're happiest doing.

The case study

We've written up how we designed Ultralight, from the first FDA flowchart to the release work for software teams, with the screens to go with it.

Thank you to Monik, Shiv and the Ultralight team for trusting us from the very start. We can't wait to see what comes next.
